ANCA Advances Africa’s Cybersecurity Framework with Constitution and Strategic Roadmap

The 5th African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA) meeting marked a defining moment in the continent’s efforts to fortify its digital resilience. As cyber threats continue to evolve, Africa’s cybersecurity leadership is taking structured steps to enhance regional cooperation, strategic alignment, and international engagement.
A major milestone at the meeting was the endorsement of the ANCA Constitution, with 17 out of 21 member states committing to the framework. This constitutional foundation establishes a formal governance structure for ANCA, providing clarity on its mandate, decision-making processes, and collective cybersecurity objectives. Complementing this, the adoption of a Five-Year Strategy, backed by 16 members, lays the groundwork for a long-term vision to address cyber threats, enhance cross-border collaboration, and build local cybersecurity capacity.
Beyond policy, the meeting underscored tangible commitments from key member states. Morocco pledged its full support for ANCA’s operationalization, reinforcing its dedication to Africa’s cybersecurity agenda. In a significant development, Morocco also announced plans to establish a regional Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide direct assistance to ANCA members, strengthening the continent’s ability to respond to cyber incidents in real time.
