Unveiling SES’s Multi-Orbit Solutions at MWC 2025

MWC 2025 has been an exciting event for SES, with a strong focus on showcasing their latest advancements in satellite technology. Simon Gatty Saunt highlighted the key products on display at the SES booth, emphasizing the importance of their M-Power satellite constellation—a high-powered medium-Earth orbit (MEO) system designed to enhance connectivity.

“We’ve got a number of different products which we’re showing on the stand this year,” he said. “We’re also showcasing our multi-orbit satellite solutions, which are orchestrated with an SD-WAN solution to provide the best connectivity experience for end users.”

Multi-Orbit Orchestration: A Game-Changer for Africa

As satellite technology takes center stage at MWC 2025, Simon Gatty Saunt elaborated on how SES is leveraging its multi-orbit capabilities to optimize connectivity for enterprises, particularly in Africa.

“This year marks our 40th anniversary of providing satellite solutions in Africa. We’ve come a long way in terms of technology, and today, we work closely with partners like Kiva (formerly Neuron) to package our different satellite solutions—including geostationary, MEO, and low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites—to deliver the best possible quality of experience for end users.”

This multi-orbit approach allows SES to serve diverse industries, including offshore energy, mining, and enterprise connectivity, by dynamically allocating the right satellite technology to meet specific needs.

Bridging Africa’s Connectivity Gap with Satellite

Addressing one of the most pressing challenges in Africa—digital inclusion—Simon Gatty Saunt emphasized the role of satellite technology in bridging the digital divide.

“Our big focus for 2025 is Africa,” he stated. “We’re working closely with the European Commission on multiple projects to bring connectivity to landlocked regions, where terrestrial infrastructure remains limited.”

He underscored the transformational impact of satellite solutions in connecting remote communities. “Satellite can bring connectivity to villages that have never had internet before, and our goal is to support as many digital inclusion projects as possible.”

Empowering Businesses with AI and IoT Integration

Beyond connectivity, SES is integrating Edge AI and IoT solutions to drive economic growth and business opportunities across Africa. Simon Gatty Saunt highlighted how SES’s industrial IoT solutions are supporting industries like mining and offshore energy.

SES is also demonstrating its Edge AI capabilities at MWC, showing how it can enable precision farming and market intelligence for African farmers. “A farmer can now check which local market offers the best price for his produce, which opens up a lot of opportunities for small businesses,” he said.

The Future of Satellite Connectivity in Africa

Looking ahead, SES remains committed to expanding its B2B satellite connectivity solutions in Africa, working closely with leading telcos and enterprises. While consumer broadband is not SES’s primary focus, their solutions are enabling cell tower connectivity, extended Wi-Fi networks, and enterprise cloud integration.

Gatty Saunt concluded with a vision for the future:

“We’re integrating cloud solutions from major providers like Azure, Oracle, and Google Cloud to ensure seamless connectivity for businesses. Industrial IoT is only going to grow, and our role is to enable this transformation with robust, reliable satellite solutions.”

As SES continues to push the boundaries of multi-orbit satellite technology, its commitment to Africa’s digital future remains at the heart of its global strategy.
