Nigeria and UK commit to closer law enforcement collaboration, focusing on cybercrime, fraud, and future agreements including an MOU and exchange programs.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., today, 29th April 2025, reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to inter-agency and international cooperation in combating transnational crime, following a courtesy visit from the Honourable Lord David George Hanson, Minister of the Home Office, United Kingdom, which took place at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.
During the meeting, Lord Hanson emphasized the significant threat posed by transnational crime, particularly fraud, acknowledging it as a major area of concern for both the UK and Nigeria. He expressed his pride in the existing collaborative efforts between the UK Government and the NPF in tackling cybercriminals and voiced his anticipation for strengthened cooperation in the future. He further stated that the UK Government is committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its efforts to combat crime, especially cybercrime, and looks forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will further solidify the partnership and provide a framework for enhanced collaboration.
The IGP welcomed Lord Hanson’s remarks and emphasized the importance of the visit which underscores the strong partnership between the Nigerian and the UK governments, and the shared commitment to tackling transnational crime. The IGP further appreciated the support and partnership being extended to law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, particularly the Nigeria Police Force. Looking ahead, the IGP expressed his hope to establish a fellowship exchange program with the National Crime Agency (NCA) to foster a deeper, long-term relationship and strengthened collaboration.
The Inspector-General of Police emphasized the continuous dedication of the Nigeria Police Force towards strengthening partnerships and collaborations with relevant organizations to tackle the menace of crime and bringing it to its barest minimum.
