Zambia’s Minister Felix Mutati emphasizes stronger cybersecurity after visiting Digital Safe, citing global cybercrime's $12 trillion threat by 2025.

Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Chipota Mutati, has emphasized the importance of enhancing the nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure following a visit to Digital Safe Limited. The visit provided an opportunity for the government to gain insights on improving national digital security, as Digital Safe offers a range of services, including cybersecurity management, governance risk and compliance, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and incident response.

Mutati highlighted the alarming scale of global cybercrime, which currently stands at $10.5 trillion and is projected to reach $12 trillion by the end of 2025. He underscored the need for Zambia to adopt robust cybersecurity measures and enforce newly enacted Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes laws, aligning with international best practices.

He emphasized that these laws are essential for safeguarding citizens, businesses, and critical infrastructure from digital threats, stressing that no one is permitted to intercept private communications without a court-issued warrant. Mutati also commended the local talent at Digital Safe and encouraged them to develop more homegrown solutions to address Zambia’s cybersecurity challenges.
