Public Comments Sought on Proposed Telecom Regulation Shift

Government seeks public comments on proposed telecom licensing policy, undersigned by Minister Solly Malatsi, with submissions due in 30 days.

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has issued  a proposed policy direction to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) regarding the need for applications for individual Electronic Communications Network Services (ECNS) licences.

Issued under the Electronic Communications Act (Act No. 36 of 2005), the proposal invites interested parties to submit written comments within 30 working days from 21 May 2025. Submissions should be sent to Mr. A Wiltz, Chief Director: Digital Access and Services, at iecns@dcdt.gov.za . For queries, contact Mr. L Motlatla at 083 714 0126.

Unless requested otherwise under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (Act No. 2 of 2000), all submissions will be treated as public. Late submissions may not be considered.

The notice was undersigned by Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mr. Solly Malatsi.
