South Africa is set to launch a dedicated national satellite through a strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of efforts to strengthen its presence in space technology and digital infrastructure.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Mondli Gungubele, confirmed the development during the SAMENA Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Dubai, where he spoke to the Emirates News Agency. He noted that the partnership leverages the UAE’s advanced capabilities in satellite technology and follows the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
The summit, held under the patronage of the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA ), gathered key figures from across the region to explore opportunities in digital innovation. South Africa’s engagement at the event signals a focused commitment to expanding its technological capacity through international cooperation.
