The proposed framework is expected to establish clear guidelines, enforce industry best practices, and foster collaboration between government agencies, private sector operators, and international partners to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber incidents.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  has begun strategic efforts to develop a comprehensive cybersecurity framework aimed at protecting the nation’s communications infrastructure, which is classified as critical national infrastructure.

The move was announced yesterday as part of the Commission’s broader agenda to strengthen national digital resilience and safeguard Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

Speaking on the initiative, the NCC emphasized the growing importance of the telecommunications sector in enabling financial services, governance, healthcare, and education. With rising cyber threats globally, the Commission stressed the need for a robust cybersecurity posture to protect networks, data, and the millions of users who rely on digital services daily.

The proposed framework is expected to establish clear guidelines, enforce industry best practices, and foster collaboration between government agencies, private sector operators, and international partners to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber incidents.

This development aligns with Nigeria’s National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy, reinforcing the role of the NCC as a frontline institution in the country’s digital security ecosystem.

By implementing a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, the NCC aims to not only secure critical infrastructure but also boost investor confidence, protect consumer data, and ensure the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s digital future.
