Angola Cables Signs MoU to Strengthen Africa’s Intercontinental Data Connectivity

Author: Joyce Onyeagoro

The agreement promotes the complementarity of the two entities' infrastructures, enabling the development of joint solutions for business customers and global operators.

MEO Wholesale Solutions  – the unit responsible for developing MEO’s international business – and Angola Cables  – a multinational operator that operates in Portugal through its subsidiary TelCables Europe  – have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of strengthening the interconnection of their data center networks and expanding the offer of telecommunications services at an international level.

This strategic partnership lays the foundations for the interconnection of PoPs (Points of Presence) between the MEO LDV Data Center in Portugal and the AngoNAP Fortaleza Data Center in Brazil, through submarine fiber optic connection capacity between the two companies. The agreement promotes the complementarity of the two entities’ infrastructures, enabling the development of joint solutions for business customers and global operators. The collaboration covers areas such as submarine cables, IP connectivity and international Pop2Pop interconnection networks between data centers, driving the creation of a true Atlantic digital ecosystem between Portugal, Brazil, Africa and the USA. The agreement also provides for the definition of shared business models, the joint promotion of services and the exploration of commercial opportunities with other MEO Group companies.

“Thanks to our submarine cable network in the Atlantic and Angola Cables’ partner cables linking the American continent to Lisbon, this strategic partnership with MEO Wholesale Solutions allows us to create the first ‘business supercorridor’ between the MEO Data Center in Portugal and the AngoNAP Fortaleza Data Center in Brazil. This connection enables the rapid transit of data and digital traffic from Europe (with Portugal as the entry and exit point) to Brazil, the United States and Africa, allowing the delivery of services and content, with special relevance to the Portuguese language,”

– Samuel Carvalho, Chief Marketing Officer and Global Solutions Design at Angola Cables.

“This strategic partnership with Angola Cables represents a decisive step in strengthening MEO’s international connectivity, consolidating Portugal as a digital hub of excellence. MEO Wholesale Solutions customers now have access, in their data centers in Portugal, to a multi-connected Atlantic network, allowing direct connections from Lisbon to 66 data centers worldwide through Angola Cables’ physical network, and also to more than 930 data centers and 500 cloud connection points, through a high-performance virtual network”.

-Ana Carla Sousa, Director of MEO Wholesale Solutions
