Starlink Launches in Lesotho, Secures 10-Year License to Boost National Connectivity
The launch supports Lesotho’s national digital transformation agenda, with a particular focus on expanding internet access to underserved and remote regions.

Lesotho has officially become the latest African nation to welcome Starlink , the satellite internet service from SpaceX, following the approval of a 10-year operating license by the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA ). The license was granted on April 14, 2025, after a year-long regulatory review, positioning Starlink as the country’s first satellite-based broadband provider.
The launch supports Lesotho’s national digital transformation agenda, with a particular focus on expanding internet access to underserved and remote regions. To accommodate the entry of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite services, the LCA revised its licensing framework, culminating in new regulations gazetted earlier this year on January 31.
Operating under the local entity Starlink Lesotho (Pty) Ltd, the company now holds a Network Service License that enables it to offer high-speed internet to both consumers and businesses nationwide.
Starlink’s standard hardware kit is priced at ZAR 7,400 (USD 410.80), while monthly residential subscriptions cost ZAR 950 (USD 52.70). A more affordable Starlink Minikit will also be available for ZAR 3,800 (USD 210.95), offering users more flexible options.
Lesotho’s regulatory shift and Starlink’s launch mark a significant milestone in the country’s drive toward broader digital inclusion and resilient internet infrastructure.
