MICT SETA and TIA Partner to Accelerate Digital Skills and Innovation in South Africa
This strategic collaboration is designed to support national development through the advancement of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)-aligned initiatives.
The Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) have entered into a multi-year partnership aimed at strengthening South Africa’s digital skills pipeline and innovation capabilities. This strategic collaboration is designed to support national development through the advancement of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)-aligned initiatives.
The agreement outlines several key focus areas, including the design and implementation of digital and 4IR-focused skills development programmes. These will be critical in equipping South Africans with the competencies needed to participate meaningfully in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
In addition to technical training, the partnership will broaden access to innovation infrastructure across the country. By supporting platforms such as digital hubs and research centres, the initiative aims to foster innovation and enable more inclusive participation in the technology sector.
The collaboration also places strong emphasis on inclusivity. It will support youth, women, and persons with disabilities through co-funded programmes designed to improve access to skills development, technology, and entrepreneurship opportunities. This includes the provision of bursaries, internships, and business incubators, which will help build a future-ready workforce equipped for sustainable employment and innovation.
By aligning resources and expertise, MICT SETA and TIA are laying the groundwork for a digitally empowered economy. Their joint efforts are expected to transform the innovation landscape in South Africa and ensure that digital transformation is both inclusive and impactful.
