Nigeria Strengthens Ties with Netherlands, Receives Strategic Digital Infrastructure Support

June 26, 2025
2 min read

Mr. Rob Bokhoven reiterated the strength of the bilateral relationship and announced plans to share a mobile border software program with the NIS—an initiative designed to provide innovative, tech-driven solutions to enhance Nigeria’s border control systems.

Sequel to a working visit to the Netherlands earlier this year by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (CGIS), KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, the Service recently received a Dutch delegation at its headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was led by Mr. J. Bartelink, Chargé D’Affaires of the Embassy of the Netherlands, and the meeting marked a high-level strategic engagement aimed at deepening migration cooperation between Nigeria and the Netherlands. The focus of the visit was to enhance bilateral collaboration on migration management, assess ongoing capacity-building efforts, and formalize the handover of key operational resources. These included the Edison Software license keys and the Passport Examination Program Manual (PEPM III) App—critical tools designed to support the Nigeria Immigration Service’s digital transformation initiatives.

During the meeting, Mr. Bartelink reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms in migration governance and border security. He praised the long-standing partnership between both countries and highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation in tackling global migration challenges.

Also part of the Dutch delegation was Mr. Rob Bokhoven, Director of International Affairs, Repatriation and Deportation Services at the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Netherlands. He emphasized the strength of bilateral relations and announced plans to share a mobile border software program with the NIS. This initiative is aimed at delivering innovative, tech-driven solutions to bolster Nigeria’s border control and security infrastructure.

In her response, the CGIS expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of the Netherlands for its continued support and technical assistance. She emphasized that both the PEPM III and Edison Software tools would play a vital role in strengthening the Service’s document verification systems and border management capabilities, while also supporting the effective implementation of Nigeria’s National Migration Policy.

This engagement further reinforces the strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Netherlands, advancing shared objectives in migration governance, border security, and broader international cooperation.
