Gabon to Overhaul African Institute of Informatics for Digital Excellence
The planned overhaul aims to redesign training programs to address emerging digital trends, introduce new pedagogical and technological approaches, and implement a structured remediation plan to restore the institute’s standing as a hub of innovation.
Gabon’s Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation, Mark Alexandre Doumba, held a strategic meeting with the management of the African Institute of Informatics (IAI) to review the current state of the pan-African institution and outline an ambitious restructuring plan.
The meeting, attended by IAI Coordinator Teddy Moukaga Moukaga and the institute’s Administrative and Finance Manager, provided a comprehensive report on the challenges facing the institution. Once a leading center for training top computer engineers in Africa, IAI has faced significant structural and organizational hurdles in recent years that have slowed its growth and limited its regional influence.
Minister Doumba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing IAI, building on initiatives launched by his predecessor. The planned overhaul aims to redesign training programs to address emerging digital trends, introduce new pedagogical and technological approaches, and implement a structured remediation plan to restore the institute’s standing as a hub of innovation.
Key priorities of the reform include reorganizing governance, strengthening management frameworks, and convening an extraordinary Board of Directors meeting with ambassadors from member states to ensure a concerted and inclusive revamp process.
The Ministry emphasized that this transformation aligns with the vision of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to make IAI a regional pillar of digital excellence, serving African youth and driving innovation across the continent.
