Visa Opens First African Data Center in South Africa, Pledges R1 Billion Investment

Global payments giant Visa  has officially launched its first data center in Africa, a significant milestone located in South Africa. This strategic move underscores Visa’s growing commitment to the region’s digital future, accompanied by a substantial R1 billion investment planned for South Africa over the next three years.

 “For us at Visa, this is more than infrastructure — it’s an investment in people, potential, and partnerships. By enabling communities to participate more fully in the digital economy, we’re helping build a more inclusive and connected future.”

She highlighted that this new data center reflects Visa’s deep belief in the South African market’s growth and its potential to lead digital innovation.

The new facility is set to accelerate innovation, strengthen local capabilities, and foster long-term resilience within the digital economy. This investment is part of Visa’s ongoing efforts to support Africa’s rapidly expanding digital landscape, ensuring more secure and seamless transactions across the continent.

Ms. Moodley extended gratitude to Visa’s internal teams, as well as public and private sector partners and clients, whose collaboration was instrumental in bringing this significant project to fruition.
