Safaricom Ethiopia Kicks Off Major Fiber Infrastructure Project in Afar
Safaricom Ethiopia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities while advancing digital infrastructure across the country.
Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia has launched the installation of new fiber infrastructure connecting Afdera to Mekelle, in a move aimed at improving network resilience and meeting growing data demands in the region.
The kickoff ceremony was attended by officials from the Afar Regional Administration, including the Deputy Commissioner for Disaster and Risk Management, Mr. Ali Mohammed. As part of its longstanding approach to combine infrastructure rollouts with community support, Safaricom Ethiopia also donated emergency relief items valued at 500,000 Birr to residents affected by recent flooding in Afdera. The contribution includes 1,000 square meters of tenting material, 200 liters of edible oil, 500 kilograms of rice, and 500 kilograms of white flour.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Mohammed commended the initiative, noting both the relevance and the awareness it brought to the region’s ongoing challenges. Safaricom Ethiopia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities while advancing digital infrastructure across the country.
