South Sudan Ministers Report Severe Telecom Failures in Ruweng and Upper Nile
Both states reported significant issues with telecommunications networks, with leading providers like Zain and MTN being particularly unreliable.
In a meeting on Tuesday, Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, received reports from officials in Ruweng and Upper Nile regarding the state of communication services. Both states reported significant issues with telecommunications networks, with leading providers like Zain and MTN being particularly unreliable.
James Monylual Majok, the Minister of Information for Ruweng, stated that subscribers using MTN and Zain networks often experience a complete lack of service for two to three days at a time. Peter Ngwojo Akwiny, the Minister of Information for Upper Nile, proposed a solution, suggesting that the government engage with Digitel Network to explore opportunities for improving communication infrastructure in the region.
The reports also highlighted other pressing issues. Both ministers reported widespread flooding in Ruweng, which has caused extensive damage to crops and agricultural land. Additionally, they noted a severe shortage of goods in the Malakal market, an issue they said requires urgent intervention.
