As part of the initiative, Airtel Zambia has committed to building 350 new communication towers nationwide.

Airtel Zambia  has partnered with the Ministry of Technology and Science  to advance the country’s digital transformation agenda, in a ceremony attended by the Hon. Minister Felix Mutati, MP, Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, and Airtel Zambia Muttal Group Chairman Mr. Sunil Bhatt.

The collaboration aims to expand digital infrastructure, enhance financial inclusion, and empower innovation across Zambia. As part of the initiative, Airtel Zambia has committed to building 350 new communication towers nationwide. The expansion is expected to improve connectivity, extend services to rural areas, and support the national financial inclusion target of 80 percent within the next 12 months.

The partnership will also generate employment, increase participation in e-commerce, and broaden access to government services. Airtel plans to provide training opportunities in India for Zambian technology start-ups, strengthening the nation’s digital capacity and nurturing local innovation.

Speaking at the event, Minister Mutati highlighted the transformative potential of improved digital access for education, particularly in rural communities. Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Habeenzu praised Airtel’s contributions to Zambia’s digital progress despite national challenges, including drought, and expressed government readiness to explore smart energy solutions to support service reliability.

This partnership underscores the shared commitment of the Zambian government and private sector to bridge the digital divide, stimulate innovation, and empower citizens through enhanced access to technology, positioning Zambia for inclusive socio-economic growth and regional leadership in digital transformation.
