Ghana Pushes Digital Transformation as Key to Africa’s AfCFTA Prosperity

August 25, 2025
2 min read

Hon. Sukparu underscored that the future of African business lies in digital trade and innovation, which can help entrepreneurs access new markets and scale globally.

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, emphasized the nation’s dedication to digital transformation, stating that it is crucial for Africa’s economic integration and prosperity under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Minister made these remarks in a speech delivered on behalf of the sector Minister at the Africa Business Festival: “The CEO’s Connect Summit,” held in Accra on August 21, 2025.

Hon. Sukparu commended the event organizers, Enzee Events and the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce, for creating a platform for dialogue among policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors. He highlighted the summit’s theme, noting that digital tools and platforms are now foundational to global competitiveness and resilience.

Under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is implementing bold policies and investments to build a digitally enabled economy. This includes initiatives such as e-governance platforms, digital financial inclusion, and broadband expansion into rural communities to ensure no one is left behind.

The Ministry is also committed to strengthening support for startups, FinTechs, and entrepreneurs to solidify Ghana’s position as a hub for business and technology in Africa. The Minister underscored that the future of African business lies in digital trade and innovation, which can help entrepreneurs access new markets and scale globally.

He stressed the need for Africa to transition from being a consumer of technology to a producer and innovator. This transformation, he explained, requires robust collaboration between governments, the private sector, and academia. He urged entrepreneurs to adopt digital tools and investors to deepen partnerships with Africa’s growing tech ecosystem.

Concluding his address, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to driving digital transformation across the continent.

“The future of Africa’s business lies not just in its markets, but in its innovation. If we digitize Africa, we globalize Africa.”

Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Ghana

He thanked the organizers and wished participants fruitful discussions.
