CSquared and LTA Board Meet to Advance Digital Transformation in Liberia
The LTA board expressed its support for CSquared's ongoing work and its potential to contribute to the nation's digital growth.
In a recent meeting, representatives from CSquared , a pan-African wholesale infrastructure provider, met with the new board of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) to provide an update on their services and plans for future expansion. The LTA board, led by Chairman Clarence K. Massaquoi and Licensing and Regulations Commissioner Ben Fofana, urged CSquared to continue its expansion efforts, which are seen as critical to driving digital transformation and economic development nationwide.
CSquared, which began its operations in Liberia in 2017, highlighted several key achievements. Through a grant from USAID and a partnership with Google, the company built a 355km high-speed open-access broadband metro backbone that connects over 51 government institutions. Their infrastructure also includes a 350km corridor from Monrovia to Luogata on the Ivory Coast border, providing reliable high-speed networks to hospitals, schools, universities, homes, and offices. A significant accomplishment is the cross-border connection with Ivory Coast at Luogata, which offers a strategic redundancy connection in case the ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) cable falters.
Looking to the future, CSquared outlined its ambitious expansion plans. In partnership with the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), the company is working to facilitate a “Fiber to the Home” (FTH) initiative. They are on course to complete the FTH rollout throughout Ganta within the next 60 days. CSquared also aims to extend its infrastructure beyond Liberia, with plans to connect to Accra, Ghana, and then to Lagos, Nigeria. The company is currently providing Wi-Fi presence in Gbarnga, Ganta, Kakata, and Sanniquelle (Nimba University) and serves over 1 million Liberians, reaching into rural areas.
The meeting also marked the first official interaction between the new LTA Board and former LTA Commissioner Maria Harrison, who now heads CSquared’s Board of Directors. The collaboration between the two entities underscores the shared commitment to advancing Liberia’s digital infrastructure. The LTA board expressed its support for CSquared’s ongoing work and its potential to contribute to the nation’s digital growth.
