The milestones include the full deployment of the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) across all 116 local authorities, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration among government institutions.

SMART Zambia  – e-Government Division has announced major strides in its mission to build a digitally empowered nation, highlighting six key achievements aimed at strengthening local authorities and improving public service delivery.

The milestones include the full deployment of the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) across all 116 local authorities, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration among government institutions.

To promote transparency and accountability, the Division has also rolled out the Constituency Development Fund Management Information System (CDF-MIS), which enhances efficiency in the management and utilization of CDF resources for community development projects.

In addition, the Cash for Work Management Information System (CFW-MIS) has been implemented to streamline the administration of temporary employment programs, guaranteeing timely payments and fair beneficiary selection.

At the community level, the introduction of the Village e-Register is digitizing village data to improve citizen engagement and access to government services.

On the sustainability front, the Solarization of Local Authorities initiative is reducing the carbon footprint while providing reliable energy to power digital infrastructure.

To boost digital capacity, SMART Zambia recently handed over 1,780 laptops and 220 all-in-one desktops to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) for distribution to all 116 local authorities. This ICT investment is expected to enhance service delivery and support the digital transformation agenda.

These milestones, according to SMART Zambia, are significant steps toward creating an efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered government.
