South Africa to Unveil AI-Powered Electronic Travel Authorisation System
Powered by advanced machine learning technologies, the system will gradually digitise and automate visa applications, helping to eliminate inefficiencies while strengthening safeguards against fraud and corruption.
South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Leon Schreiber, will on Thursday, 18 September, present the country’s upcoming Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system at the Tourism Business Council of South Africa’s Leadership Conference.
The ETA, currently in development, is a flagship project aimed at transforming South Africa’s visa and travel management processes. Powered by advanced machine learning technologies, the system will gradually digitise and automate visa applications, helping to eliminate inefficiencies while strengthening safeguards against fraud and corruption.
By streamlining travel authorisations, the initiative is expected to make South Africa a more attractive destination for international visitors and investors, while also enhancing national security through smarter digital controls.
The Minister’s in-depth public presentation at the leadership conference will mark a key milestone in the rollout of the ETA and underline government’s commitment to leveraging technology to modernise service delivery in line with the country’s tourism and economic growth ambitions.
