Tunisia Strengthens Workforce Readiness with New Smart Industry Training Center

By investing in specialized training, Tunisia is positioning itself to nurture a new generation of tech-savvy professionals, encourage the growth of startups, and drive regional leadership in smart industry.

As Tunisia adapts to the rapid rise of new technologies, specialized training is emerging as a key factor in improving the employability of its youth. A new training hub in Sfax has been established to prepare the next generation for careers in advanced fields such as robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart industrial systems.

On Tuesday, September 30, the governorate of Sfax officially launched a new Industry 4.0 training center designed to align the country’s workforce with the demands of digital transformation in the industrial sector. The facility aims to provide young Tunisians with the skills required to thrive in a labor market increasingly shaped by automation and digitalization.

According to Elyes Chérif, Director General of the Tunisian Agency for Vocational Training (ATFP), the initiative directly addresses the evolving needs of local industries. The center’s mission is to equip learners with future-ready expertise and enhance their integration into the workforce.

The first intake will include 13 participants, who will undergo specialized training in automation, robotics, IoT, and intelligent system maintenance. This Sfax laboratory becomes the fourth of its kind in Tunisia, following similar centers in Ariana, Monastir, and Sousse.

The project is part of Takween, an innovative dual-training program launched in 2020 with the support of Switzerland. The program’s broader goal is to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and the practical skills required in Industry 4.0, particularly for graduates of vocational education.

Such efforts are crucial at a continental level. The African Development Bank projects that by 2030, over 30 million young Africans will enter the job market each year. In Tunisia, where a youthful population meets a transforming industrial landscape, initiatives like these play a vital role in reducing skills mismatches, boosting employability, and fostering local innovation.

By investing in specialized training, Tunisia is positioning itself to nurture a new generation of tech-savvy professionals, encourage the growth of startups, and drive regional leadership in smart industry.
