Algeria Expands Satellite Infrastructure with New Regional Hub in Constantine
The new facility will serve as a central hub to strengthen operational efficiency and bring satellite communication services closer to local operators and users across the eastern region of the country.
The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Syed Ali Zarouqi, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Algeria Regional Directorate for Space Communications in Constantine, marking a major milestone in the modernization of Algeria’s digital and telecommunications infrastructure. The ceremony, held during the minister’s official visit to the province, underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure, enhance working conditions, and improve regional service delivery in line with Algeria’s broader digital transformation strategy. The new facility will serve as a central hub to strengthen operational efficiency and bring satellite communication services closer to local operators and users across the eastern region of the country.
The initiative forms part of Algeria’s strategy to bolster the capacity of Algérie Télécom Satellite (ATS) — a subsidiary of the Algérie Télécom Group — which specializes in providing satellite-based communication services. ATS plays a vital role in delivering Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) networking services to public administrations and economic institutions, as well as mobile telephony via satellite and geolocation (tracking) services. The upgraded regional directorate is expected to enhance the performance and coordination of ATS teams, supporting greater reliability, coverage, and responsiveness in service delivery.
The Constantine Regional Directorate will oversee satellite communications operations across a wide area that includes the provinces of Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Setif, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Tébessa, Khenchela, Batna, Oum El Bouaghi, M’Sila, Biskra, and Boussaâda. This expansion reflects the Algerian government’s ongoing commitment to fostering technological self-reliance and digital connectivity nationwide. Minister Zarouqi emphasized that such infrastructure investments are crucial to positioning Algeria as a regional leader in satellite communication, digital innovation, and smart governance.
