Botswana’s Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe, has urged African nations to strengthen collaboration and undertake bold reforms to accelerate the continent’s digital transformation. Speaking at the Digital Government Africa Summit held at Bonanza in Chongwe, Mr. Gaolathe emphasized that Africa’s digital future depends on collective action and harmonized policies.

The Vice President highlighted the importance of federated digital systems, harmonized data protection frameworks, and co-investment in regional infrastructure to build a resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem. He noted that African countries must align their policies on data protection, e-signatures, and digital identity, while investing jointly in data centers and internet exchange points to reduce operational costs and strengthen connectivity across borders.

On the sidelines of the summit, Vice President Gaolathe toured various exhibition booths alongside Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, and SMART Zambia Institute National Coordinator, Mr. Percy Chinyama, who showcased Zambia’s ongoing e-government initiatives.
