Congo Expands 3G Connectivity to Rural Areas Under Digital Transformation Project (PATN)

October 16, 2025
1 min read

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, aims to expand access to reliable Internet and digital services as part of the country’s broader strategy to promote inclusive digital growth.

The Project for Accelerating Digital Transformation (PATN) in the Republic of the Congo has reached a new milestone with the successful deployment of 3G connectivity across multiple rural locations. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, aims to expand access to reliable Internet and digital services as part of the country’s broader strategy to promote inclusive digital growth.

The latest phase, announced on October 14, 2025, marks the commissioning of several new 3G network sites across regions including Niari (Nkoilou, Moutolo, Niamiba, Kibongui-Laomba, Kibombi, Bokoma, Tchibota, Tsienioula), Bouenza (Nkayi, Loudima, Lounda-Louakipouka), Pool (Ingolo 1), Plateaux (Nkomgoma), Cuvette (Mboumbigou), and Likouala (Ngoinda).

This expansion brings high-speed Internet access to over 30,000 people living in previously underserved areas, creating new opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and e-government services. The improved connectivity is expected to foster socio-economic development, strengthen digital inclusion, and bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities.

Supported by the World Bank, PATN is a cornerstone of Congo’s national digital transformation agenda. The project focuses on enhancing telecommunications infrastructure, promoting universal access to digital services, and accelerating the country’s transition toward a more connected, innovative, and sustainable digital economy.
