The discussions focused on Microsoft Elevate, a key initiative driving Kenya’s digital growth through public–private partnerships aimed at enhancing AI skills across the nation.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MoICDE),  through the ICT Authority, has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding Kenya’s artificial intelligence (AI) capacity and digital transformation agenda. This follows a high-level strategic meeting held between Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, and Microsoft’s Executive Leadership, led by Phyllis Migwi, Country General Manager for Microsoft East Africa.

The discussions focused on Microsoft Elevate, a key initiative driving Kenya’s digital growth through public–private partnerships aimed at enhancing AI skills across the nation. The meeting highlighted the program’s success in raising awareness, promoting active participation, and maintaining certification authenticity as part of efforts to build a sustainable and trustworthy AI ecosystem.

Eng. Tanui emphasized the importance of including lawmakers and policymakers in AI skilling programs, noting that their involvement is crucial in setting strategic direction and ensuring that AI development aligns with national priorities. He underscored that high-level engagement is vital in establishing a strong governance framework to guide the responsible adoption of AI technologies in Kenya.

Also present at the meeting were Becky Abraham, Vice President of Technology at AI Pathways Technologies Limited, and Joe Gaiku, Solution Specialist at Tabarin Consulting, alongside other senior government officials.

The meeting reinforces Kenya’s commitment to fostering inclusive digital growth, positioning the country as a regional leader in AI innovation and governance. Through partnerships like Microsoft Elevate, Kenya aims to empower its workforce with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy while ensuring responsible and sustainable technology adoption.
