Zambia and Czechia Forge Strategic Tech Alliance to Accelerate Digital Transformation

Zambia and Czechia have entered into a strategic technology and trade alliance aimed at accelerating the delivery of President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for a modern, job-creating digital economy. The agreement, unveiled at the Tech for Zambia Forum, marks the launch of the “Kwenyu Pact”, a partnership focused on action, delivery, and measurable outcomes rather than dialogue. The alliance represents a pivotal step in advancing Zambia’s technological transformation and strengthening its capacity to compete in the global digital landscape.
At the center of the initiative is the goal of creating scale and sustainability across the country’s emerging technology sectors. The Zambian government is taking decisive steps to support this transformation by finalizing the Data Protection Act and operationalizing the Cybersecurity and Cyber Crimes Law. These frameworks will ensure that data serves as a driver of investment, innovation, and wealth creation rather than as a barrier to progress. The government’s approach reflects a broader effort to translate policy into tangible results that improve efficiency, productivity, and inclusiveness within the national economy.
The partnership aligns with Zambia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to transition the economy from traditional heavy industry toward a modern, knowledge-based model. Czechia’s expertise in advanced engineering and industrial technology will play a critical role in this shift. The alliance will promote local manufacturing of products such as solar panels, batteries, drones, and satellites, while introducing cutting-edge systems in clean energy, remote sensing, and cybersecurity. These developments are expected to enhance local production capacity, stimulate innovation, and create new employment opportunities in high-value sectors.
A key objective of the partnership is to build local value chains that retain more wealth within Zambia. This will be achieved through targeted knowledge transfer, skills development, and collaboration between Czech and Zambian enterprises. The alliance aims to enrich industries such as mining and agriculture by embedding technology-driven efficiency and fostering self-sustaining industrial ecosystems. Czech innovators will also contribute to the rollout of satellite and drone data for precision farming and infrastructure planning, as well as off-grid energy solutions to power rural schools and clinics.
The collaboration extends beyond technology and infrastructure to include human capital development. As part of the agreement, the Czech Republic will offer 20 to 25 annual scholarships for Zambian students to study in key technology fields such as engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science. This educational component is designed to strengthen Zambia’s technical expertise and ensure long-term sustainability of the digital economy.
The Kwenyu Pact stands as a symbol of Zambia’s commitment to building a digital future grounded in innovation, local capacity, and strategic global partnerships.
