Under the new programme, the Foundation will upgrade more than 600 schools and tertiary institutions, create over 10,000 scholarships, and equip teachers with essential digital skills to prepare learners for a rapidly evolving world.

The M-PESA Foundation  has unveiled Citizens of the Future, an ambitious five-year education programme designed to transform learning across Kenya. The initiative seeks to modernize the education system by integrating technology, improving infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for students and teachers nationwide.

Under the new programme, the Foundation will upgrade more than 600 schools and tertiary institutions, create over 10,000 scholarships, and equip teachers with essential digital skills to prepare learners for a rapidly evolving world. The initiative aims to nurture a generation of innovators, leaders, and changemakers who can drive Kenya’s social and economic development.

According to Safaricom PLC, Citizens of the Future represents a major step toward creating modern, inclusive, and tech-driven “Schools of the Future.” By focusing on both access and quality, the programme underscores Safaricom’s continued commitment to leveraging technology for social impact.

The M-PESA Foundation has previously supported education, health, and economic empowerment projects across Kenya, but this marks one of its most comprehensive efforts yet to align learning with the demands of the digital age.
