New Franco-Nigerian Initiative Aims to Boost Data Privacy and Governance
By leveraging French experience in digital governance, the collaboration will help improve institutional capacity, ensure compliance, and build public trust in how data is handled across Nigeria.
France and Nigeria have launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s data protection framework. The French Treasury in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), officially unveiled a technical cooperation project in Lagos this week. The program seeks to enhance Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem, building on French expertise in data privacy and regulatory best practices.
The project is designed to support the NDPC in implementing and enforcing the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023. By leveraging French experience in digital governance, the collaboration will help improve institutional capacity, ensure compliance, and build public trust in how data is handled across Nigeria.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment between France and Nigeria to uphold international standards in digital governance and privacy protection. It marks a significant step forward in the countries’ growing cooperation in the digital sector. The French Treasury has emphasized its intention to continue deepening the partnership, working with the NDPC to foster a safer, more transparent digital environment for Nigerians.
