Huawei and MTN South Africa Drive Global Innovation with First AN L4 IP Network Certification

November 13, 2025
2 min read

The achievement was made possible through Huawei’s support, leveraging its Xinghe Intelligent Autonomous Driving Network Solution, including the iMaster NCE-IP Network Digital Map and NetMaster Network Agent.

MTN South Africa  has reached a global milestone in autonomous networking, becoming the first operator worldwide to achieve Autonomous Network Level 4 (AN L4) certification in the IP network domain. The certification, issued by the TM Forum, highlights MTN’s leadership and technical prowess in implementing fully autonomous network capabilities.

The achievement was made possible through Huawei’s support, leveraging its Xinghe Intelligent Autonomous Driving Network Solution, including the iMaster NCE-IP Network Digital Map and NetMaster Network Agent. These tools enabled MTN South Africa to implement end-to-end autonomous closed-loop functions, encompassing intent awareness, intelligent analysis, decision simulation, and automated execution.

TM Forum, a leading global telecom organization, conducts the Autonomous Network Levels (ANL) assessment in collaboration with industry partners. The AN L4 assessment evaluated MTN South Africa’s capabilities in network congestion and path interruption optimization, awarding the company the highest grade, “Grade A,” across all dimensions of the GB1059C v1.1.0 standard.

“This recognition reflects MTN’s continued investment in cutting-edge technology to ensure that our customers enjoy the most reliable and intelligent network in South Africa. Our autonomous network evolution allows us to plan, anticipate and resolve issues before they impact users — a crucial step in managing network performance in order to deliver superior digital experiences for all. Automation and intelligence are redefining network performance globally. MTN South Africa’s achievement showcases how African innovation and collaboration can set new benchmarks in network excellence.”

Zoltan Miklos, General Manager for Access Planning and Architecture, MTN South Africa

“Congratulations to MTN South Africa on being awarded the world’s first Level 4 Autonomy Network certification in IP field, a milestone that reinforces its leadership in innovation among global carriers. Huawei remains committed to empowering networks with AI technologies. Through deepened collaboration with MTN South Africa, we will deliver sustained value to customers while accelerating the intelligent evolution of next-generation networks.”

Wang Hui, President of the NCE Data Communication Domain, Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line

The AN L4 certification marks a significant step in MTN South Africa’s digital transformation journey, positioning the operator as a global leader in autonomous network deployment and intelligent network management.
