Looking ahead to FY 2026/27–2028/29, the Ministry outlined priorities aimed at expanding digital infrastructure, modernising broadcasting systems, strengthening public communication, enhancing data protection, and addressing cybersecurity threats.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy of Kenya  participated in the Public Hearings for the FY 2026/27 and Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) Budget during the Energy, Infrastructure, and ICT Sector session. The session was chaired by the PS for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Stephen Isaboke, with the PS for ICT and Digital Economy, John Tanui, serving as Acting Sector Chair. The hearings provide a platform for public engagement in national planning and budgeting, allowing citizens to contribute directly to government priorities and resource allocation.

During the session, the Ministry highlighted the sector’s progress over the past three financial years. Achievements include increased productivity in content development and accreditation, the construction of seven digital content production centres, and significant advancements in digital infrastructure. Key milestones reported were the laying of 7,152 kilometres of fibre, the digitisation of 17,668 government services on eCitizen, and the onboarding of over 1.5 million young people into digital skilling programmes, with more than 182,000 accessing online jobs.

Looking ahead to FY 2026/27–2028/29, the Ministry outlined priorities aimed at expanding digital infrastructure, modernising broadcasting systems, strengthening public communication, enhancing data protection, and addressing cybersecurity threats. Planned initiatives include further fibre installations, expanded public internet access points, full digitisation of government services, and operationalisation of national cybersecurity institutions, alongside continued investment in energy-efficient broadcasting and connectivity facilities.

The public hearing emphasised the pivotal role of the Energy, Infrastructure, and ICT Sector in Kenya’s economic, social, and technological transformation. The session reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to supporting the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and Vision 2030 by driving inclusive digital growth, expanding opportunities for citizens, and building a resilient, digitally empowered nation.
