Digital Economy Ministry Launches AI Forum to Prepare Cape Verde for Technological Change

The Ministry of Digital Economy of Cape Verde  marked an important milestone with the opening of the International Forum on Artificial Intelligence, held at Jean Piaget University in the city of Praia. The event underscores the country’s growing commitment to preparing its institutions, youth, and academic community for the rapid advancements driven by artificial intelligence.

Representing the Ministry, the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Dr. Pedro Lopes, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to support Cape Verde’s adaptation to emerging technologies. He reiterated that the Ministry remains fully engaged in national initiatives aimed at strengthening digital readiness and ensuring that Cape Verde keeps pace with global technological transformation.

Dr. Lopes emphasised that artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic or ideological concept but a powerful reality reshaping economies and societies at unprecedented speed. He stressed the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and digital skills needed to lead within this new era. His remarks reinforced the Ministry’s goal of encouraging strong participation from the country’s youth and academic institutions, ensuring equitable access to opportunities within the evolving AI landscape.

The forum serves as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and capacity building, positioning Cape Verde to harness AI for sustainable development and economic growth.
