Nigeria Approves 4,000 Telecom Towers to Expand Rural Connectivity and Security
The rollout also supports emergency services and security operations in remote areas.
The Federal Executive Council has approved the deployment of 4,000 telecommunications towers in underserved communities across Nigeria. The initiative aims to expand rural connectivity, boost national security, and stimulate local commerce, addressing gaps for millions without reliable voice and data services.
Challenges such as vandalism, high diesel costs, and permit fees have previously hindered telecom expansion, but operators are adopting hybrid solar systems and co-location strategies to reduce costs and ensure sustainability. The rollout also supports emergency services and security operations in remote areas.
Alongside telecommunications, the FEC approved new agricultural mechanisation centres to enhance year-round farming across Nigeria. Health initiatives are also progressing, with over 14 million girls vaccinated against HPV and nearly 30 million children receiving the combined measles–rubella vaccine, backed by continued investment in primary healthcare.
These measures reflect the government’s focus on improving infrastructure, public health, and social welfare nationwide.
