MTN Digital Infrastructure, commercially trading as Bayobab,  has announced the appointment of Peter Nwankwo as General Manager – Commercial Management within the FibreCo division, effective 1 January 2026. Peter will report directly to Mohammed Aliyu, Chief FibreCo Officer.

Bayobab continues to strengthen its position as Africa’s leading digital infrastructure provider, leveraging connectivity and fibre solutions to enable transformation. The Commercial Management function is central to this vision, driving commercial strategy, cost optimisation, and operational excellence across our fibre business.

Peter brings over 20 years of experience in telecommunications and digital infrastructure, with deep expertise in commercial management, sourcing and procurement, transport and network systems, and strategic negotiations. His collaborative and solutions-driven approach has delivered significant impact across MTN Group.

He recently played a critical role in MTN’s “Winning the Home” initiative, which enhanced MTN’s FTTH value proposition and accelerated market penetration. Peter also notably contributed to Bayobab’s cost optimisation programme, leading commercial renegotiations that improved financial efficiency and strengthened supplier partnerships. Earlier in his career, Peter served as MTN’s first Cable Landing Station Manager and represented MTN across multiple subsea cable consortia subcommittees. He also held senior engineering and technical roles at MTN Nigeria and Alcatel-Lucent, building deep domain expertise in subsea, transport, and optical transmission systems.

Peter is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Heriot-Watt University, UK. He holds an MBA from the same institution, with a specialism in Strategy and Strategic Planning, and a First-Class B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan. His credentials include PMP, CIPS, and Agile Scrum Master certifications.

Bayobab is excited to welcome Peter to the leadership team. His strategic insight and proven track record will be instrumental in advancing our commercial strategy and driving operational excellence.
