December 16, 2025
1 min read

This initiative marks a significant step in Gabon’s efforts to integrate digital services into public transportation and improve the overall travel experience for railway passengers.

The Gabonese Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization, and Innovation  has announced the official launch of Wi-Fi services on passenger trains, scheduled for December 23, 2025. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine, and Logistics,  in partnership with SETRAG  and Airtel Gabon,  aiming to modernize the railway experience and enhance passenger comfort through digital connectivity.

During the initial phase of the project, onboard Internet access will be limited exclusively to the WhatsApp application. Future phases are expected to expand the range of services gradually, contingent on technical performance and service quality assessments.

The Internet solution, branded as One Web, has been developed and deployed by Airtel Gabon in collaboration with SETRAG. The official launch event will include a live demonstration of the service and a real-world connection test onboard a passenger train, attended by government officials and project partners.

This initiative marks a significant step in Gabon’s efforts to integrate digital services into public transportation and improve the overall travel experience for railway passengers.
