MTN Digital Infrastructure Names Lloyd Mphahlele to Lead South Africa FibreCo

Lloyd will lead the FibreCo business in South Africa, driving strategic execution, ensuring strong returns on investment, and overseeing end-to-end operational performance.

MTN Digital Infrastructure, commercially trading as Bayobab,  has announced the appointment of Lloyd Mphahlele as Managing Director of Bayobab South Africa FibreCo, effective 1 January 2026. Lloyd will lead the FibreCo business in South Africa, driving strategic execution, ensuring strong returns on investment, and overseeing end-to-end operational performance.

With over 28 years of experience in telecommunications and management, Lloyd brings a proven track record of leadership and innovation. His career spans senior roles at Telkom SA and Vodacom SA, followed by his tenure at MTN Group, where he served as General Manager: Transport & OSS Tools. Lloyd has been instrumental in pioneering Open and Disaggregated Transport technology across Africa, setting global benchmarks and steering major MTN Group initiatives such as the Marshall Plan and Project Zero.

Lloyd holds a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a B-Tech in Telecommunications, and an MBA from Tshwane University of Technology, complemented by multiple leadership certifications.

Bayobab continues to strengthen its position as Africa’s leading digital infrastructure provider, leveraging connectivity and fibre solutions to enable transformation.
