The network handled a staggering 300 terabytes of mobile data and six million voice calls, maintaining a near-perfect 99.99% call setup success rate despite the extreme pressures of high-density environments.

Ooredoo,  the nation’s leading telecommunications provider, has announced the successful delivery of uninterrupted, high-capacity connectivity across a landmark year of international sporting championships and global conferences.

Throughout 2024, Ooredoo’s infrastructure seamlessly managed the immense digital demands of over 1.5 million spectators and delegates. The network handled a staggering 300 terabytes of mobile data and six million voice calls, maintaining a near-perfect 99.99% call setup success rate despite the extreme pressures of high-density environments.

Unprecedented Network Efficiency

The surge in digital activity highlighted a significant shift in user behavior and network capability:

  • 5G Dominance: 5G services accounted for more than 60% of total data traffic, providing the speed and capacity required for high-definition streaming and instant uploads.
  • Voice Excellence: VoLTE usage exceeded 95%, ensuring superior voice clarity and reliability for fans and officials alike.
  • Zero Disruption: Even during “prime-time” peak moments, the network sustained ultra-low latency and near-zero service disruption.

The Technology Behind the Success

To support these massive crowds, Ooredoo deployed a suite of cutting-edge technologies, including 5G+ coverage powered by Massive MIMO and advanced carrier aggregation. Strategic “smart pole” deployments and 5G+ beamforming allowed users to upload high-definition content instantly, even in packed stadiums and fan zones.

These hardware solutions were managed by AI-driven, real-time network optimization. A dedicated operations center, staffed by over 200 specialized technical resources, provided proactive monitoring to balance traffic and resolve potential issues before they affected the user experience.

“As Qatar continues to attract major international gatherings and position itself as a global destination, our role extends beyond providing connectivity. We are building the intelligent, resilient digital infrastructure that enables the nation’s long-term objectives.”

Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al Thani, CEO, Ooredoo Qatar

A Global Destination for Innovation

This performance reinforces Qatar’s growing reputation as a premier host for large-scale global gatherings. By delivering future-ready connectivity when the world is watching, Ooredoo has demonstrated that its infrastructure is not only robust enough for today’s demands but is fully prepared for the next generation of digital innovation.
