The engagement underscored the shared commitment of regulators, industry players, and associations to enhance connectivity, service quality, and digital innovation across Malawi’s ICT sector.

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)  hosted an engagement meeting at its Chichiri Head Offices in Blantyre with Helios Towers  and the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) to discuss strategies for strengthening the country’s telecommunications sector.

During the meeting, Helios Towers Managing Director Amani Keenja and his leadership team briefed MACRA Acting Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma on the company’s plans to continue supporting mobile network operators, including new market entrants, by providing additional tower space. Keenja highlighted Helios Towers’ growth since 2022, noting the company now operates 896 towers and is targeting over 1,000 towers by the end of 2026.

Acting DG Nkoloma recognized Helios Towers as a critical partner in improving service quality within the telecommunications sector and committed to engaging relevant authorities on foreign exchange challenges affecting the importation of tower construction materials.

Meanwhile, ICTAM President Clarence Gama outlined the association’s priorities for the year, including contributing to the National Artificial Intelligence Policy, developing new ICT policies and procedures, and driving digital transformation across Malawi. Nkoloma encouraged ICTAM to advocate for quality service delivery and emphasized the importance of collaboration, particularly in tackling the rising challenge of mobile money fraud.

The engagement underscored the shared commitment of regulators, industry players, and associations to enhance connectivity, service quality, and digital innovation across Malawi’s ICT sector.
