Oman’s Mobile Operators Excel in 5G, Speed, and Reliability, Says Opensignal
Overall, the report illustrates that Oman’s mobile operators continue to advance in speed, coverage, reliability, and 5G deployment, underpinned by regulatory support and investment in network modernization.
The latest January 2026 Opensignal Mobile Network Experience Report highlights the performance of Oman’s three main mobile operators—Ooredoo, Omantel, and Vodafone —over a 90-day period from October 1 to December 29, 2025. The report evaluated key metrics including overall experience, coverage, speed, consistency, video and gaming experience, as well as 5G-specific performance.
Ooredoo retained its position as the outright winner of the Reliability Experience award, and emerged as the sole winner of Download Speed Experience and 5G Upload Speed Experience. The operator also shared accolades with Vodafone for Games Experience, 5G Games Experience, and Time on Network, bringing its total to six awards, three outright and three joint. These results reflect Ooredoo’s ongoing focus on radio modernization and advanced 5G antenna trials aimed at improving network efficiency, coverage, and speeds.
Omantel led in Coverage Experience and 5G Coverage Experience, while also securing 5G Video Experience, 5G Download Speed, and Consistent Quality outright. Omantel shared the Video Experience award with Vodafone. With a total of six awards (five outright, one joint), Omantel’s strong performance is backed by extensive fiber infrastructure expansion and a network upgrade strategy focused on unlocking 5G Standalone (SA) capabilities.
Vodafone, while seeing its overall lead narrow compared to previous reports, maintained a strong presence with the outright win in Upload Speed Experience, and joint awards in Games Experience, 5G Games Experience, Video Experience, and Time on Network, totaling five awards. Vodafone’s expansion leverages low-band 700MHz spectrum, enhancing outdoor coverage and indoor penetration, along with cloud-based infrastructure and rapid 5G rollout efforts.
The report also notes the impact of the Oman Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) nationwide 3G shutdown, completed in 2025. The phased transition to 4G and 5G enabled the reuse of spectrum for advanced technologies, upgraded over 5,600 sites nationwide, and contributed to 99% 4G coverage and 90% 5G coverage across the Sultanate. The TRA’s efforts in quality-of-service monitoring and field testing further strengthened transparency, covering key performance indicators such as signal strength, speed, call quality, video streaming, and social media performance.
In terms of video experience, Omantel and Vodafone scored in the Very Good (68–78) category, allowing users to stream content at 1080p or higher with minimal buffering, while Ooredoo scored in the Good (58–68) category, enabling 720p streaming with satisfactory loading times. Opensignal’s evaluation incorporated real-world video streaming data, including adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming, across 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
Overall, the report illustrates that Oman’s mobile operators continue to advance in speed, coverage, reliability, and 5G deployment, underpinned by regulatory support and investment in network modernization. The combined focus on infrastructure expansion, digital innovation, and service quality positions the Sultanate as a leading market for mobile connectivity in the region.
