Malawi Concludes Mobile Money Fraud Prevention Initiative, Strengthens Stakeholder Collaboration

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has concluded the Mobile Money Fraud Prevention initiative, emphasizing the ongoing commitment of stakeholders to curb fraudulent activities in the country’s digital financial ecosystem.
On the final day of the programme, members of the Steering Committee and the Parliamentary Committee on Media and Communications reaffirmed their dedication to addressing mobile money fraud, recognizing its broader impact on public trust in digital services. The initiative highlighted that while mobile money has significantly boosted economic activity, fraud poses serious risks to both businesses and consumers.
The Parliamentary Committee pledged to intensify public awareness campaigns within constituencies and to support a review of legislation aimed at promoting innovative security measures. It also committed to strengthening coordination among task force agencies to enhance the effectiveness of fraud prevention efforts.
MACRA Acting Director General and Steering Committee Chairperson, Mayamiko Nkoloma, commended the task force for its ongoing efforts and encouraged sustained collaboration among all stakeholders. He also challenged the team to develop proactive solutions that anticipate and outpace the tactics used by fraud perpetrators.
