Through the Horizon Europe framework, Nigeria is establishing a permanent pathway for joint research initiatives, academic exchange, collaborative innovation, and infrastructure development.

Dr. Kingsley T. Udeh, Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science & Technology of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  received a high-level delegation from the European Union  led by Ambassador Gautier Mignot to formally activate Nigeria’s bilateral framework under Horizon Europe. This milestone is a key step toward advancing research excellence, accelerating technology transfer, and driving industrial growth across strategic sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The activation aligns closely with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes economic diversification, industrial competitiveness, job creation, and sustainable development. By fostering structured collaboration in science, technology, and innovation, the initiative supports Nigeria’s transition from a resource-dependent economy to a globally competitive, knowledge-driven industrial nation.

Through the Horizon Europe framework, Nigeria is establishing a permanent pathway for joint research initiatives, academic exchange, collaborative innovation, and infrastructure development. Key focus areas include digital transformation, renewable energy, health sciences, agriculture, climate innovation, and emerging technologies. The framework will provide Nigerian universities, start-ups, innovation hubs, and researchers access to global funding mechanisms while enabling the conversion of research outcomes into scalable industrial solutions.

Dr. Udeh emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the Horizon Europe partnership delivers tangible outcomes, including increased research funding inflows, stronger industry-academia linkages, enhanced technology transfer, expanded opportunities for youth, and sustainable industrial growth. The initiative represents a foundational step in building a future for Nigeria anchored on innovation, resilience, and the vision of Renewed Hope.
