Kenya and Romania Strengthen Cybersecurity Cooperation to Safeguard Digital Transformation

Kenya has welcomed a structured cooperation aimed at strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity posture and safeguarding its digital transformation gains. The engagement took place this morning at the Ministry Headquarters, where the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy,  H.E. Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, E.G.H., hosted a courtesy call from the delegation of Safetech Innovations and the Romanian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Gentiana Serbu.

Safetech Innovations, a Romanian firm specializing in comprehensive cybersecurity solutions, engaged with the Kenyan officials on the importance of cybersecurity as a national priority, particularly as the government accelerates digitization. The discussions focused on protecting critical infrastructure, building institutional capacity, and developing strong and sustainable cyber resilience frameworks.

The delegation also explored opportunities for collaboration in research and development, including partnerships with institutions of higher learning to facilitate knowledge transfer and the exchange of expertise.

Kenya and Romania continue to maintain cordial bilateral relations under an existing Memorandum of Understanding, which provides a framework for cooperation in key areas such as ICT and innovation. This engagement builds on that foundation, deepening practical collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing Kenya’s cybersecurity and digital economy capabilities.
