Kenya Explores Collaboration with Amazon LEO Satellites to Expand Connectivity
The discussions, led by Farouk Shamas Jiwa, Senior Manager for International Public Policy, Global Affairs & Legal at Amazon, focused on expanding fast, reliable, and affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities using LEO satellite technology.
John Kipchumba Tanui, Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy in Kenya, shared an update on February 23 regarding a meeting with the team from Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network. The visit was a courtesy call to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at advancing universal connectivity across Kenya.
The discussions, led by Farouk Shamas Jiwa, Senior Manager for International Public Policy, Global Affairs & Legal at Amazon, focused on expanding fast, reliable, and affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities using LEO satellite technology.
Tanui noted that partnerships leveraging innovative technologies such as satellite broadband will play a critical role in bridging the digital divide, supporting digital government services, enabling remote learning, strengthening healthcare delivery, and creating opportunities for youth and enterprises across the country.
He emphasized the commitment to continued engagement to ensure that all communities benefit from Kenya’s digital transformation efforts.
