The inaugural physical gathering of the Africa AI Council signals renewed momentum for collaborative governance, knowledge sharing, and the development of AI solutions tailored to Africa’s unique needs and opportunities.

The Africa AI Council has held its first in-person meeting on the sidelines of MWC Barcelona, marking a significant step in advancing artificial intelligence collaboration across the continent.

The meeting, convened during the global technology event, brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategic priorities for AI development and deployment in Africa. The Council’s engagement at the international forum underscores Africa’s growing voice in global AI conversations and its commitment to shaping responsible, inclusive, and innovation-driven AI ecosystems.

Didier Nkurikiyimfura, Director of Emerging Technologies and AI at Smart Africa, highlighted the key outcomes of the discussions. He outlined progress on coordinated policy approaches, capacity building initiatives, and strengthened partnerships aimed at accelerating AI adoption for socio-economic transformation across African countries.
