MultiChoice to Retire Showmax Amid Strategic Shift

MultiChoice, part of CANAL+ SA , has announced plans to discontinue its Showmax streaming service following a comprehensive review of its operations. The decision, approved by the Showmax Board of Directors, comes as the company seeks to focus on financial discipline and optimize investments in a highly competitive, capital-intensive global streaming market.
According to the Group, Showmax’s substantial annual losses have become unsustainable, prompting the move to phase out the service. The company emphasized that the discontinuation will not involve retrenchments, with employees being supported through various transition options.
