As part of its long-term vision, Ethio Telecom is implementing its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028” strategy, aimed at transforming Ethiopia’s digital landscape and strengthening the country’s global competitiveness.

Ethio Telecom  has commemorated the 130th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa while also celebrating the 132nd anniversary of the company’s founding, highlighting its long-standing role in advancing telecommunications in Ethiopia and across Africa.

The company traced its origins to the introduction of the first telephone service in Ethiopia, when early communication networks such as telegraph lines and long-distance telephone and telegram links were established between Addis Ababa and Harar. These early systems laid the foundation for what would later become Ethio Telecom, which has evolved over the decades from traditional telegraph, landline, and fax services to modern digital communication technologies including mobile networks, wireless systems, and satellite connectivity.

As part of its long-term vision, Ethio Telecom is implementing its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028” strategy, aimed at transforming Ethiopia’s digital landscape and strengthening the country’s global competitiveness. The initiative focuses on building reliable telecommunications infrastructure and expanding digital services to ensure inclusive access to connectivity and technology.

Looking ahead, the company’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 ambitions seek to expand access to information, education, and healthcare services through digital platforms and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. The strategy also aims to modernize government and business services, support farmers through digital agriculture solutions, and strengthen data-driven decision-making across institutions.

Through these initiatives, Ethio Telecom says it remains committed to empowering citizens, supporting technological innovation, and positioning Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
