MWC 2026: Ethio Telecom Strengthens Partnerships with Huawei, Ericsson, ZTE, Nokia

Through these initiatives, Ethio telecom reinforces its commitment to digital transformation, network modernization, and fostering technology-driven learning and innovation in Ethiopia.

On the sidelines of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, Ethio telecom  CEO Frehiwot Tamru, alongside the company’s executive management team, held high-level meetings with global technology partners to strengthen strategic partnerships and advance the company’s network expansion plans.

During the engagements, Ethio telecom met with senior executives from Huawei,  ZTE,  Ericsson,  and Nokia  to explore advanced technologies that will support the company’s strategic vision, “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond.” Discussions focused on optimizing network infrastructure, expanding coverage, and preparing for emerging technologies, including AI-enabled network capabilities.

Ethio telecom is undertaking a large-scale modernization program, encompassing 4G capacity enhancements, 5G expansion, rural connectivity improvements, and upgrades to radio access and core network functions.

Key agreements were finalized with Ericsson and ZTE, while discussions with Huawei progressed toward finalization. These partnerships will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies showcased at MWC to improve network performance, efficiency, and future readiness.

Additionally, Ethio telecom and Nokia reviewed the successful completion of a Proof of Concept (PoC) for innovative technology solutions. The collaboration also highlighted the establishment of a flagship Innovation Center at the Ethio telecom Excellence Academy, along with 10 digital learning centers across eight high schools and two TVET institutes nationwide.

Through these initiatives, Ethio telecom reinforces its commitment to digital transformation, network modernization, and fostering technology-driven learning and innovation in Ethiopia.
