Burkina Faso Ministry Engages Diaspora Association Africa Now to Boost Digital Transformation
The discussions focused on potential avenues for collaboration to support the growth of Burkina Faso’s digital ecosystem.
The Ministry of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications of Burkina Faso has welcomed a delegation from the Africa Now association, a diaspora-focused organization based in San Francisco, to explore ways of accelerating digital transformation in the country. The meeting was led by the association’s president, Raïssa Somda, and included electrical engineer Ibrahim Kone, who has been residing in the United States for 17 years.
During the audience, Kone explained that the delegation’s visit was aimed at establishing an initial institutional contact with the ministry. He said that they had opened their activities in Burkina Faso and that it seemed natural to them to come and present what they do, adding that the Ministry in charge of Digital Transition was their guardianship ministry.
The discussions focused on potential avenues for collaboration to support the growth of Burkina Faso’s digital ecosystem. While details remain confidential, Kone hinted that initiatives could be announced in the near future: “Give us some time and we will come back with a surprise.”
Minister Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane welcomed the engagement, highlighting the crucial role of the diaspora in the country’s digital transformation. She said that the diaspora is a wealth of the country and that its skills, networks, and experience could help accelerate innovation and strengthen the nation’s digital ecosystem.
This meeting underscores the ministry’s commitment to strengthening connections between Burkina Faso and major global technology hubs. Africa Now aims to promote technological innovation and facilitate collaborations between African diaspora talent and the continent’s digital ecosystem.
