By digitising the system, Airtel Zambia is enabling groups, cooperatives, and local communities to manage their finances more securely, transparently, and efficiently, while maintaining the core principles of collective financial management.

Airtel Zambia PLC  is driving financial inclusion through the growing adoption of its Airtel Money Village Banking solution, aimed at strengthening community-based savings and lending systems.

The company highlighted the progress during a press briefing held at Kabwata Cultural Village on April 8, where it showcased how digital innovation is enhancing traditional village banking practices across Zambia.

Village banking has long served as a trusted model for community savings and lending. By digitising the system, Airtel Zambia is enabling groups, cooperatives, and local communities to manage their finances more securely, transparently, and efficiently, while maintaining the core principles of collective financial management.

The solution allows users to track transactions with greater visibility, reduces reliance on cash handling, and minimizes risks associated with manual record-keeping. It also fosters improved trust and accountability among group members.

Airtel Money Country Director Andrew Chuma noted that the initiative is designed to strengthen, rather than replace, existing community systems, with a focus on building financial resilience at the grassroots level.

The company also highlighted additional benefits, including enhanced financial visibility for members and upcoming features such as group life cover of up to K30,000, aimed at further supporting community financial security.

Airtel Zambia emphasized that the Village Banking solution goes beyond convenience, positioning it as a tool for economic empowerment that enables communities to grow, protect, and sustain shared wealth.

The initiative forms part of Airtel’s broader strategy to expand access to digital financial services and deepen financial inclusion across Zambia.
