MTN Group and MTN South Africa Retain Level 1 B-BBEE Status for Sixth Straight Year

This top ranking—maintained for the sixth consecutive year for MTN Group and the seventh year in a row for MTN South Africa—is contained in MTN’s annual B-BBEE compliance report compiled by an independent verification agency.

In line with its purpose of leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress, MTN Group  and its major subsidiary MTN South Africa  each sustained a Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) contributor status in 2025.

This top ranking—maintained for the sixth consecutive year for MTN Group and the seventh year in a row for MTN South Africa—is contained in MTN’s annual B-BBEE compliance report compiled by an independent verification agency.

B-BBEE is designed to address economic inequality, expand participation in the economy, and strengthen long-term resilience in South Africa. MTN’s strategy of creating shared value includes advancing digital and financial inclusion across its markets to support economic development and build a more connected and equitable Africa.

The company’s strong performance was driven by consistent progress across key scorecard areas, including skills development, enterprise and supplier development, and socio-economic development. Leadership transformation also continues at board level across both MTN Group and MTN South Africa.

During 2025, MTN supported 492 learnerships, graduate programmes, and targeted skills interventions, with a strong focus on digital and technical capabilities aimed at improving employability and participation in the digital economy.

Preferential procurement remained a key driver of inclusive growth under MTN’s Ambition 2030 strategy. The company spent R8.8 billion with 51% Black-owned suppliers and R11.6 billion with 30% Black women-owned suppliers, supporting enterprise development and local economic participation.

Through the MTN South Africa Foundation, the company continued to expand its impact in education and digital inclusion. Initiatives such as the MTN Online School, which reached 905,000 learners, and the MTN Skills Academy, which reached 25,023 beneficiaries, are focused on empowering women and youth for employability and entrepreneurship.

MTN reaffirmed its commitment to embedding transformation across its value chain, strengthening economic resilience, and supporting inclusive growth across South Africa’s digital economy.
