UniPod Botswana  has launched a new Virtual Reality Programme in collaboration with the Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub, aimed at advancing immersive technology, creativity, and innovation among young people.

The initiative was officially unveiled during an event that brought together academia, innovation leaders, and development partners to highlight the growing role of virtual reality in shaping future industries and skills.

The programme was opened by Professor Edward Dintwa, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Botswana, who noted that both UniPod and the Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub play a critical role in fostering innovation and providing dynamic environments for experimentation and learning.

The Director of UniPod Botswana, Professor Richie Moalosi, emphasized the importance of nurturing innovators and highlighted virtual reality as an emerging technology with significant potential to create employment opportunities for young people and contribute to economic growth.

Mr Joseph Ndaba, Director of the Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub, underscored the social impact of such programmes, noting that they can support students facing social challenges by equipping them with practical skills that improve their future prospects.

The event was also attended by Ms Josephine Lewis, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), who reinforced the importance of partnerships in driving innovation and youth empowerment.
